Our statement regarding presidential executive order mandating the closure of the U.S. Education Department

Our members have asked us what the closing of the U.S. Department of Education will mean for our members and our industry. The Trump Administration is committed to examining and ending bureaucratic excess in all areas of the federal government. We believe that all agencies will be under scrutiny and challenge. This can and will include our colleagues at NHTSA, FMCSA, NTSB, among others. We sincerely value our exceptional working relationships with our colleagues at all federal agencies and will strive to maintain those relationships for our members.

The National Association for Pupil Transportation has maintained a close working relationship with professional staff at the U.S. Department of Education. We appreciate the work of those employees, particularly in the Office of Special Education Programs, which relates closely to our transportation of students with disabilities and special needs.

During this transition to a reduced department, we are eager to learn how IDEA funding and programs will be administered. IDEA funding is important to the ability of our members to safely transport children with disabilities.

As Secretary McMahon and her team begin their tenure leading the department, we look forward to collaboration with the department to ensure safe and efficient transportation of America's students.

We will continue to watch, monitor and keep you informed of any changes that will impact our members and the industry we serve.
