Albany, N.Y., October 16, 2023 –The National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) honors the collaborative effort by school districts and their respective communities who work hard to ensure safety for each child that they serve.
Held during the third full week of October each year, National School Bus Safety Week is an active and evolving public education program and an excellent way for parents, students, teachers, motorists, school bus operators, school administrators, and other interested parties - to join forces and address the importance of school bus safety. Between October 16 – 20, 2023 school districts throughout the country will observe School Bus Safety Week, highlighting the theme "Safely Rolling to My Destination." A theme derived from the 2022-23 Poster Contest where Avrie Siedschlag, a student at Coon Rapids Middle School in
Coon Rapids, MN, won first place in the national competition. In addition, they will prepare for the 2023-24 National School Bus Safety Poster Contest where the poster creation period is underway, highlighting the theme “Driving Safely Into the Future.”
“NAPT's vision is a world where every student has access to safe and efficient transportation; it is initiatives like the National School Bus Safety Week that allow for our association to move our vision forward,” said Rick Grisham, NAPT President. “At its core, National School Bus Safety Week is a simple reminder that safe transportation is integral to a successful education enterprise. NAPT will use this week to celebrate the work being done by our members, the very work that gives our association a clear direction of where to focus our efforts to ensure our vision is a reality.”
“We recognize that a week is not enough time to properly communicate the importance of school bus safety, that is why we will work tirelessly to build upon what this week offers us,” says Molly McGee Hewitt, NAPT Executive Director and CEO. “We are the National Association for Pupil Transportation, the credentialing body for our profession, our efforts this week will emphasis the importance of recognizing the leaders who are on the front lines of school systems, putting student safety above all else.”
Throughout the week NAPT will spotlight the importance of safety in school bus operations by sharing stories, facts, and honoring those who work hard to keep our students safe.
