Understanding and Empowering Children with Sensory Processing Disorder and Autism

Imagine sitting on the school bus as a child. The seat feels like a porcupine, the air smells like a fire, the other students talking sounds like nails running down a chalkboard.  To top it off, you don’t have the communication skills to tell anyone how you feel and you think that no one will understand because they don’t feel things the same way. For many students dealing with Sensory Processing Disorder, including Autism, this is what riding on a school bus can feel like. For them it is - a very scary, unsafe, and painful place. With a better understanding of these issues, and a knowledge of actions, you can help these students feel safe and overcome fears when riding on the bus.

This course will focus on challenges, accommodations, and techniques to help when working with children with Sensory Processing Disorder and Autism.
