On the same day the CDC released its new school opening guidelines, the US Department of Education disseminated an updated version of their Strategies for Safely Reopening Elementary and Secondary Schools, which contains more in-depth transportation considerations.
The National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT®) is excited to announce a new partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The organizations are creating a multi-part educational series entitled “Electric School Buses: From Zero to Sixty,” designed to help both school transportation service providers and other K-12 administrators begin transitioning their fleets from diesel fuel, gasoline, and propane to electric power. The move was spurred by President Biden's “Build Back Better” plan to make all American-made buses zero-emission by 2030. The plan starts with the U.S. school bus fleet, which would convert within five years.

On January 21, 2021, President Biden signed Executive Order No. 13998, “Promoting COVID-19 Safety in Domestic and International Travel.” It orders “Immediate Action to Require Mask wearing on Certain Domestic Modes of Transportation.” The order took effect nationwide at 11:59 p.m. on February 1, 2021.
