FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearninghouse

On December 5, 2016 (in the Federal Register at Page 87686), the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issued its final rule establishing the National Commercial Drivers' License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.

VW Pleads Guilty, Pays $4.3B

In January 2017 VW agreed to plead guilty to three criminal felony counts, and pay a $2.8 billion criminal penalty, as a result of the company's long-running scheme to sell approximately 590,000 diesel vehicles in the U.S. NAPT members can read a full summary by logging in to the Members Only Section.

Crash data trends, federal & state requirements

Based on GAO's analysis of data for 2000-2014, 115 fatal crashes involved a school bus on average each year, which is 0.3% of the 34,835 total fatal motor-vehicle crashes on average each year. 

FMCSA Analyzes Bus Fire Safety

In Novemeber 2016 the USDOT, FMCSA, Technology Division, Office of Analysis, Research, and Technology released a study analyzing motorcoach and school bus fire safety. 

Update: Transportation for Homeless Students

Effective October 1, 2016 the federal government enacted the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) in 2015 as successor legislation to the No Child Left Behind Act. 

Upcoming RTI/NAPT Survey on School Bus Bullying

NAPT is currently partnering with RTI International to study bullying, violence, and other types of misbehavior that occurs on school buses in the U.S.
